Most of us are hit by the post holiday blues just a day or two after the holidays have ended. This is a period of depression and stagnation where the high of the holiday is over and we’re just trying to hang on for dear life, before going back to work.
While the post holiday blues can be disconcerting, there are ways to deal with them and possibly even get rid of them entirely:
- Start by working on understanding that things change and there is no “up” without a “down” and no hills without valleys. That way, you will enjoy some measure of acceptance and feel a little more at peace that the holidays have ended.
- Spend time with your closest friends, and consider having a post holiday get-together just for kicks. You can have a drink, enjoy some fun social time, and help each other transition back to your normal routine.
- Consider starting a new hobby or taking up an old one that you’d given up in the past. Starting something new will always work to overshadow any feelings of sadness and depression over the fact that your happiest moments have passed. Keep your hormones balanced with Denver integrative medicine support, and keep calm even during the days you have to head back to work.
- Finally, and most importantly, adopt a mentality that says that every day is a holiday or a blessing. If you see every day as special, then your holidays will just be an added bonus to that, and you can cultivate a habit of finding the good in all things.
